WhyPres? Blog by Zhenxin Wu

Welcome to the iPRES 2019 WhyPres series: testimonials and reflection from members of the digital preservation community regarding their iPRES participation. This blog was written for you by Zhenxin Wu, professor at the Information System Department, at the National Science Library in Beijing, China.

In 2003, it was my first time to learn about digital preservation, at that time I was helping to test LOCKSS software. In 2004, I was so lucky to be a member of the local committee to organize the first iPRES in Beijing.  After then, I attended iPRES many times, Beijing twice (2004, 2007), San Francisco (2009), Toronto (2012), Lisbon (2013), Melbourne (2014), Chapel Hill (2015), Bern (2016), Kyoto (2017) and Boston (2018).

Sharing Platform
For me, iPRES is an efficient sharing platform that gives me the opportunity to talk with experts and learn about the progress of projects. I keep track of iPRES reports and papers even if I cannot attend the conference.

iPRES 2019
There are many excellent projects and experts in the Netherlands. I can imagine that iPRES 2019 will become a great event. The team of iPRES 2019 is a well-planned and efficient collaboration group. As a member of iPRES 2020 ‘s local committee, I have learned lots from them.  And as Papers & Panels Co-Chair for this year’s conference, I am very much looking forward to iPRES 2019!
